Bone Marrow Transplant Center in Nepal
The Binaytara Foundation partnered with the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Civil Service Hospital of Nepal in Kathmandu to develop the country’s first blood and marrow stem cell transplant (BMT) center. Stem cell transplant is a standard procedure for the treatment of many blood cancers. The BMT center in Kathmandu successfully completed the first bone marrow transplant in August 2016. The BMT center aims to serve not only the nearly 30 million people of Nepal but also millions of people from the neighboring country of India. Throughout this project, the Binaytara Foundation provided the capacity to staff the center and will offer continuing education to clinicians. Read more.
Earthquake Relief
During the early days after the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake, the Binaytara Foundation collaborated with nonprofits in Nepal to provide immediate relief to earthquake victims. Partners and volunteers distributed rice, lentil, oil, sugar, parched rice, bhujia, soap, medicine, and tents to approximately 150 families affected by the earthquake in Bhotachaur village of Sindhupalchok District. The Binaytara Foundation and its partners also provided medical care and corrugated metal roof to those affected by the earthquake. This relief effort was in collaboration with the rotary club of Durbarmarg, Kathmandu. In addition, we partnered with another nonprofit in Nepal called Sipradian Sahayata Sanstha and were able to provide relief materials to hundreds of families in Gorkha and Chatra Deurali, Dhading. In Gorkha we distributed 240 unit tents, 100 blankets, five rolls of plastics, and food supplies such as instant noodles (80 boxes), biscuits (10 boxes), and 600 kg rice. In Chattra Deurali, Dhading, we distributed 100 unit tents, three boxes of biscuits, and 200 kg of rice to the earthquake victims belonging to the so called lower caste (Dalit). Read more.
Cervical Cancer Screening
As part of the Binaytara Foundation and Cancer Care Nepal Cervical Cancer Screening project, 1,000 women were screened for cervical cancer and inflammatory diseases of the cervix at several screening camps organized in Bara, Kathmandu, and Latitpur Districts. Read more.
Telemedicine Project
Binaytara Foundation completed more than 100 telemedicine sessions with physicians in Manipal College of Medical Sciences Pokhara in Nepal to help improve patient care and promote evidence-based medicine. The weekly telemedicine sessions started in March 2010 and continued until March 2012. Read more.
